Introducing the Nepean Concert Band

Nepean Concert Band - MusicFest 2001

The NEPEAN CONCERT BAND, INC. (NCB) has provided musical entertainment in the National Capital since 1975, when it began as a night-class offered by the Carleton Board of Education. The NCB's current membership comprises 80 volunteer musicians who enjoy playing classical, blues, marches, big-band, Broadway/Film/TV and contemporary concert band selections.

The NCB has participated in several music festivals, notably the Ottawa Kiwanis Music Festival and the Capital Region Music Festival (local component of MusicFest Canada). In 1987, 1994, 1997 and 2001 the band earned consecutive silver medals at the National Finals of MusicFest Canada (Level 600). It is one of the few community bands to participate at MusicFest.

A formal concert is performed each year (at Centrepointe Theatre, usually in February) and the NCB presents a bi-weekly "Summer Sounds" series (at Andrew Haydon Park), Wednesday evenings, from June to August. You can catch the band at numerous community and civic events within the Ottawa region such as the Canadian National Tulip Festival, The Governor General's Annual Garden Party, National Capital Dragon Boat Race Festival, City of Ottawa Mayor's Summer Beach Opening, and numerous Senior Citizens' Residences and High Schools.

Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings, 8:00 to 10:00 PM, at the Nepean Creative Arts Centre, 35 Stafford Road, Ottawa, Ontario.

The NCB is a provincially-registered non-profit organization and depends upon membership fees, concert revenue, and sponsorship from patrons in the public and private sectors, to pay for the necessities such as conductor's honorarium, rehearsal space rental, equipment maintenance and the purchase of quality concert band arrangements.
